Radar has become a very handy resource in our world today! Each day we check watching, hoping and praying for rain. We check the weather conditions and temperatures and try to prepare appropriately. Radar predicts the storms approaching and the directions they are heading. We can often see the strength and power of the storm on that radar screen, too. When watching a Hurricane approach there is an eye of the Hurricane that is calm. With Hurricane Isaac the eye was approximately 60 miles wide in the center during one point but chaos surrounding the eye. Calm inside the storm. Clear skies and possibly at night a view of the stars that the Lord has hung announcing His Majesty.
In our lives each day we need to check the radar for storms approaching so we can be prepared and take cover or flee if needed. At times the storms are approaching because of the place we have settled in and the Lord is trying to move us to safer and higher ground. Other times it might be an outside storm system that is moving in and you have no control over. The calm you need is in the eye of the storm. The Lord will hold you in the palm of His hand until the storm passes if you recognize His presence there. Handling storms alone without the Lord's intervention can lead us into waters that are too deep and winds that are just too strong for us to stand alone. So often we see when a Hurricane is approaching an area that there are those that feel the need to go out and check the waves and the intensity of the storm. Tempting the storm and often putting others in danger as they try to rescue but often the storm is proved to be too strong.

Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.
If you find there is a storm approaching, I hope you prepare yourself ahead of time! Seek the Lord in his Word and by calling out to Him. If it is a storm you have created, seek higher ground. If it is from outside sources, stay in the center where there is peace until the storm passes by. Whatever your storm, listen for the still, small voice calling your name!
